In June last year Musicadium artists Montpelier were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to fly over to the USA to make a record with a producer named Kevin Augunas.  Kevin has made records with Cold War Kids, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Yves Klein Blue to name a few.

This video serves as aa look at their time in the studio and in th United States, but features their fantastic indie-pop rock tunes.  A perfect soundtrack to accompany four young, bright musicians recording their debut EP.

Video Voyeurism: Ball Park Music (I really don’t know you)

We love this video here at Musicadium!  It’s hard to be down and unhappy when you have tunes like this playing in the office.  The bright, colourful tones of this song are matched by the crazy brightness of this quirky, funny, happy clip. A relative newcomer to the Brisbane music scene, Ball Park Music nailed a single of the week on iTunes earlier this year.  If you don’t believe us on how good they are, check out what Time Off Magazine had to say..

‘After a short break Ball Park Music take the stage with a lazy brass intro to ‘Black Skies’, before launching into the real track with the tremendous energy which has become a staple of their live performances. The band can hardly be seen from the back of the room as the crowd rush to the front, blocking the view of anyone more than 20 metres away from the stage. ‘Culture Vultures In The Year 2008’ is a number that truly takes the crowd to another level – with its fast tempo and catchy chorus line, the track allows the crowd to have a great time without them even realising it. The band is truly impressive this evening, with The Troubadour obviously being a venue which suits them perfectly. The many tones of their various instruments are not lost or blurred in this set: their sound is clean, crisp and quietly delightful. It’s performances like this that show exactly why Ball Park Music are as popular as they’ve recently become in the Brisbane indie-pop scene – this band is certainly one with an exciting future in front of them, although only time will tell exactly how exciting that will come to be’

This week, we are featuring Spearmint Fur’s cute and adorable and just a little bittersweet video for their track, Maybe.

From their MySpace:

Spearmint Fur’s music features smooth melodic vocals over melancholy, spacey and sometimes crashing guitars, and has been likened to bands such as Lush, Pixies, Drugstore, Cranberries, The Sundays, Cocteau Twins and Morrisey just to name a few. The name Spearmint Fur was inspired by an episode of the Canadian TV series Corner Gas. Spearmint Fur is singer songwriter Zadia Lenders, a multi instrumentalist who has been writing songs for many moons.

Video Voyeurism: Mink Engine

‘Superpad’ showcases Askii’s love of synths. The track seems about to burst with crunchy leads and synthetic strings, and lets the music set the agenda rather than the vocals taking the limelight. Mink Engine combine a sizzling array of beats and riffs to make a super-saturated monster that has proven itself to be a dancefloor favourite from Melbourne to Shanghai to Tokyo, from London to Berlin and beyond.

And ladled in giant spoonfuls from their continually simmering hotpot of audio-vision comes the video clip to ‘Superpad’. Band members Touch Me Tiger and Askii (starring as leaders of competing dance gangs, recruiting and training their dance elite) challenge each other to a battle-style dance off. As you can imagine, total chaos ensues with the help of a very talented choreographer and teams of dancers in outfits that make Lady Ga Ga look conservative. The clip is a colourful and psychedelic portrayal of the parallel universe that Mink Engine inhabits.

It’s the first single to be lifted from the album and is a multi-formatted pop/rock track featuring strong vocals and melodic hooks.

The video for Coma features Pippa Black and Sweeney Young from Neighbours and has been supported by Video Hits nationally on Network 10.

Coma, which was written by Jacob, is a song that he is incredibly proud of. The track was mixed by production wunderkind Richard Stolz, and further highlights Jacob’s passion for English guitar driven rock.
