Mr Monkeybum donates his royalties to UNICEF

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Mr Monkeybum, one of Musicadium’s Children’s music artists, has decided to donate all of his royalties earned up until June 2009 to worldwide Children’s fund, UNICEF.

Mr Monkeybum is a 35 year old guy from Sydney, currently living in Melbourne. He played bass guitar in a couple of bands back in the early-mid 90’s called Clover and Deluxe. In 2003, he went traveling and ended up living and studying in Belfast for 4 years. During his pre-exam break, when he was supposed to be studying for exams, he decided to write a song about Poo - purely for fun. He sent it to a couple of friends with kids - who liked it!

“I decided to release it (with Musicadium’s help) on iTunes and donate all the money I make during the 1st financial year to UNICEF. I am currently working on both another Monkeybum album and a non-childrens release. It’s all done on Garageband and would love ideas and feedback from people on how I can improve my amateur sound.”

Rock Out with The Rogues

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Brisbane band The Rogues are Musicadium favourites, because apart from knowing how to totally rock a crowd, they also don’t take themselves too seriously. Check out their MySpace for inspiration on how to pimp your own profile, shred on the guitar and how to grow the  best rock hair in Queensland! (Seriously - check it out, it’s hot.) These guys are what rock is all about. We caught up with them for a quick chat and had some interesting results! Check out their debut EP ‘Knuckles’ on The Rogues

How would you describe The Rogue’s music to punters who haven’t heard it before?
A music devouring Sex Tornado that is loud and raucous.
What is in store for anyone who attends a live show?
A life altering experience involving long hair, rock, and sexual innuendos.

Who are the greatest Rock and Rollers of all time?
Alex Van Halen, Malcolm Young, Darryl James Dio.

What are your top 3 albums for a Saturday night?
Airbourne: Runnin’ Wild, Tom Waits: Mule Variations, You am I: Sound as Ever.

How should someone dance to the Rogues? (If at all…)
Rock out with your *&#* out!

Rocking Since the Age of Twelve!

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Matt Larsen is one talented teenager. Apart from playing every instrument and singing on his debut EP ‘Undeniable’, he also wrote all tracks with a level of maturity and complexity that belies his years. While most of us were battling pimples and awkward dates at the local cineplex at age 13, Matt was winning awards at the WAMIs and mixing with the likes of Kav from Eskimo Joe and Katy Steele from Little Birdy. We were lucky enough to have a chat with the young lad, who has had the following review of ‘Undeniable’ from Drum Media. “This is the sort of thing that’s going to turn up on e-bay in about 10 years when Matt Larsen is a star. ” I won’t disagree. Check it out for yourself at Matt Larsen

Hi Matt! Firstly, congratulations on your wonderful EP. I didn’t realise that you played all of the instruments yourself! Did you get lessons for all of them or did you just pick them up?

I have had lessons for guitar and drums but the rest I picked up mostly myself. I like playing them all but guitar is definitely my favourite.

At age 12, you won a prestigious WAMI award for the primary school category. Was everyone at school completely jealous that you got to hang out with rock stars all night?

Yeah it was really cool to win the award! It was awesome meeting Kav Temperley from Eskimo Joe and Katy Steele from Little Birdy! Until I mentioned those bands, I don’t think they were that jealous… lol

What has been your favourite gig that you’ve played and why?

My favourite gig so far has to be when my band and I played at my old school. The kids went nuts! We even had most of the teachers rockin’ along. On the last song, everyone stormed the stage and sang along with us… it was great.

Who is one of your musical idols and why?

Chris Cheney is definitely my idol. He’s such a brilliant & dynamic guitar player. He incorporates different styles of music into his songs, but still maintains his rockabilly/rock sound which I think is great. He’s also very good at improvising, like one time, he got chucked a beer bottle so he picked it up and started playing his guitar with it!!

What direction would you like your music to take?

I want to get better and better at performing and song writing, and I hope to one day be able to make it my full time career!

Finally, what are your plans for the 2009? Coming to sunny Brisbane anytime soon? If so you will have to come and hang out on the Musicadium couches and play a game of fusball with us!

I’m gonna keep gigin’ in & around Perth, and I hope to record some new songs that I’ve been working on. I hope to be able to make it over to the eastern states later in 09, so be ready for that fusball game!
