Hungry Kids on JJJ

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

It’s no secret that the Musicadium team thinks the Hungry Kids of Hungary are the best thing since sliced bread. Well better than sliced bread really - more in line with hats that simultaneously feed you beer and iphones. It seems as though the rest of Australia is catching up as their track, ‘Set it Right’ has been added to full time rotation on triplej. Check out their self-titled EP on Hungry Kids of Hungary and see what the fuss is about!

Musicadium jags JMag ad

How’s this for a sweet Page six spread in the November 08 Issue of JMag?

We were very excited in the office today when our complimentary copy of the magazine came in and we found our ad underneath the contents on Page 6!  Nice, big, colourful, pretty AND helpful?

Sounds like a sweet deal to us!

Welcome to the Family, Tim

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Musicadium is very proud to welcome Tim to the team as the newly-created Promotions and Development Manager.

Tim has joined us to expand the brand of Musicadium to all new audiences the world over.

Tim moved to Brisbane from Rockhampton, QLD, 6 months ago with his partner, Sara.

Tim started his music career by the way of Education.  As in, he was an IT teacher who decided that music was calling him.  He began booking bands into O’Dowd’s Irish Pub in Rockhampton and soon enough was booking gigs with some of Australia’s best bands, such as I Killed the Prom Queen, Dead Letter Circus, British India, Ash Grunwald and Dukes of Windsor.

After some time, he was selected to head up the Rockhampton chapter of the A-Venue project, an Arts Queensland funded project, created to upskill and inform regional original musicians about the wider music industry.  Tim first heard about Musicadium through his association with Q-Music and Deb Suckling.

Feel free to drop him an email to say hello!

Tim is into Dead Letter Circus, Birds of Tokyo, The Paper and The Plane and The Getaway Plan.

Industry/Opportunity

Are you an Australian Unsigned artist producing original music?

One of the Musicadium family discovered this during the week!  Red Jezebell would like to offer unsigned Australian Artists the opportunity to have their music exposed to a massive national market.

You send Red Jezebell a message of interest, they check out an artist’s music and if the big boss digs it they will use it for their hold music.

If an artist’s music is chosen they will be agreeing to Red Jezebell using it royalty free in exchange for exposure to a massive national market. They aim to have several tracks and also to change them every few months to give as many artists a chance to be heard.

Quote of the Week

Friday 24 October, 2008.

Leadership is now the strongest marketing strategy

Yelling with gusto used to be the best way to advertise your wares. There was plenty of media and if you had plenty of money, you were set.

Today, of course, yelling doesn’t work so well.

What works is leading. Leading a (relatively) small group of people. Taking them somewhere they’d like to go. Connecting them to one another.

I say relatively because there are few products that need everyone in order to succeed. A tiny sliver of the market is enough. It’s enough if the tribe you lead knows about you and cares about you and wants to follow you. It’s enough if your leadership changes things, galvanizes the audience and puts the status quo under stress. And it’s enough if the leadership you provide makes a difference.

Go down the list of online success stories. The big winners are organizations that give tribes of people a platform to connect.

It’s so tempting to believe that we are merely broadcasters, putting together a play list and hurtling it out to the rest of the world. Louder is better. But we’re not. Now we’re leaders.

People want to connect. They want you to do the connecting.

Musicadium, meet Sophie Monk!

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Our office was abuzz today as we got wind (thanks Michaela!) that Sophie Monk was in the vicinity of our office!

Tim and Sarah meet Sophie Monk!

Tim and Sarah meet Sophie Monk!

Sarah, Marnie and I (Tim) grabbed the SM2 office’s camera and giggled our way down to Nat-Sui shoe store, where Sophie was browsing.

Sophie was lovely and kindly let us grab a photo with her.  We told her about what we do at Musicadium and how we heard she was in the vicinity. Hopefully she didn’t think we were too crazy!

Sophie was a member of girl-group Bardot and has now branched out into movies and television, appearing in movies such as Click and Sex and Death 101 and TV shows such as Entourage.

Just another Friday in the office for the Musicadium team!
