Aria Chirpy: Pretty Mid-Year Figures As Digital Smashes Through
Half-year figures from ARIA reveal that revenue from digital sales in 2008 is up 42.59% to $25.8 million. In terms of units sold there was an increase of 236.73%! That’s a jump from 15.9 million unit sales over the same period in 2007 to 53.6 million in 2008.
Overall revenues were down 4%but given the spike in digital sales and the fact that 4% is a tiny drop in comparison to many other music markets - Australian music has reason to feel buoyed.
Yes sir, it’s a brave new digital world for Australian music.
