Joel Tells Us More About His Music Video Experience

Musicadium artist Joel Davies was thrilled to learn that after hearing his music on Joel Davies, a prestigious Apple-funded Sydney film school wanted to make a film clip for him free of charge. Joel has been kind enough to share his experience with us, and we thought it only right to pass the information onto all of you. Here is the next instalment in the Joel files as told by the man himself..

“Day 2 was shot on a sunny Sunday morning. I hopped on a Jetcat boat from Manly to Circular Quay with a big smile on my face; it was 8am. The second installment of the music video clip begins today I said to myself excitedly. I was a little nervous as I finally get to meet my actress in less than an hour. We have never met before but today we are going to have to get to know each other very quickly if we want to look like a real couple. We met at Central Station in Sydney and caught a taxi together from there to the location and we got along instantly which was a relief.

The theme for the day was to give it a ‘home video’ feel; basically the idea behind it was we wanted it to seem like it was a weekend morning and my girlfriend and I are out for a stroll, drinking coffee at a cafe, then walking into the park where we start doing what couples generally do when they are out and about in love, video taping one another with a camera, etc. It was really funny because, whilst filming was taking place on the background, some people would talk to us and ask if we were filming a movie. My photographer came late, sat down with us and started talking. The director walked up to him, not looking pleased, and told him the film was running and that he was blocking the camera. haha. That was hilarious. Just to be sure, the team had asked the cafe’s permission for us to shoot there in advance.

Anyway, it was a Sunday morning and the park was full of people. There were onlookers but you forget they were even there because you get so immersed in the moment and are so focussed with filming that nothing else mattered. You just feel like you want to freeze the moment. The park at Randwick was perfect, too, because it had a lake and it had all kinds of birds, ducks, etc. in it. It was an awesome backdrop. We pretty much had all the material we needed by half past twelve and it was time to rap things up. It was only then that I realised that I was parting ways with my actress. She was so good, she actually had me believed we were going out, and yes, she was pretty. I found her at the last minute which was a blessing in disguise. She had done a lot of photographic work, calendars, other clips, magazines including Cosmopolitan, Cleo, Ralph, FHM etc. and it was a blessing to have her onboard. We had heaps of fun. I could really get used to this, I thought.”
