While I don't agree with Prince in saying the Internet is dead, I can understand where his mindset comes from. I work with R&B and Jazz artists and awhile back I posed a question on facebook to the fans of one of my artists. The question was Do you purchase CDs or digital music? The vast majority says they would rather purchase a CD, a few said they purchase both and maybe 1% said they purchased strictly online. Unfortunately there's still a large segment of society that would rather purchase a CD, mainly because they either don't have some type of mp3 players or smart phone or are not technical enough to understand the concept of downloading. I suspect, like much of the jazz and R&B world, many of Prince's fans do not want to download and probably only purchase when attending shows.
