Our Own Reality Star!

We love finding out about the interesting things our artists get up to and were excited to discover that our very own artist Dion from New Zealand has a colourful past as a reality tv star! He appeared on the series ‘Make or Break’ and had a camera crew following him around as he got used to performing on stage.

We were so interested in this that we decided an interview was in order - read on to discover what it’s really like for the reality stars! Check out his website or head to Dion

Tell us about your reality television experience. Was it positive? Are you happy that you appeared on it?

My Television appearance was awesome! For as long as I can remember I wanted to be on tv (well, to be famous…. actually :p) It was a very surreal thing to have a camera crew and sound crew following me around as I went about my various tasks in preparation for my upcoming live performance. People on the street would look at me and wonder “who I was?” and “was I someone from television or movies that they should know?” but it was great. I was actually on a course in theatrical make-up and no one from my classes even knew I was being filmed…for anything. So, one Saturday morning Lana Cocroft and her crew showed up at the salon run by the course provider and everyone was wondering what she was doing there and who was she going to be talking too. Then I show up and we’re like best mates, it totally freaked my colleagues/fellow classmates out..IT WAS GREAT!

The show was amazing, I learnt so much about event management, live performance, and all the little things that you just don’t even think about when you are watching a show..live or recorded.

How did the experience change your life on a day-to-day level?

It was definitely an ‘adjustment’ so far as people suddenly recognizing me in the street and the surreal experience of a film crew following my every move making the most mundane activity appear so ‘fascinating’ it was quite bazaar. Made me feel ‘important’…:P like some kind of “entry level celebrity intern” or something lol

How would you describe your music?

Well, like most writers/singer-writers, I write from my own life experiences and believe me I have plenty of experiences/events/dramas/issues.. in my past and present to provide many albums worth of material.

What are some of your favourite artists from New Zealand and also internationally?

I didn’t really have any ‘favourite’ NZ performers as no-one really offered anything t hat interested me. Bic Runga was about the closest I got to an ‘outstanding’ artist ..for me anyway. I am more into Choreographed stage productions, not musicals but visually stimulating shows..like Michael and janet jackson..britney (ahem! ) Madonna and-the-like. I prefer to see the singer dancing as well as hearing the tracks, I guess it comes from my own interest in dancing and nite-club /back-up dance experience.

How should punters dance to your music?

Hmmmmm tough question…ha ha, I guess the best way is with a bottle of Vodka in one hand and hottie on the other…that way if you suck at dancing you can always use alcohol and pashing as an excuse!
