I find that a lot bands use a combination of SonicBids, Revernation, SoundCloud and rootmusic.com (bandpage facebook plugin) and the usual facebook, twitter and youtube to promote there band and gigs . Seems to be the main ones I find that bands use to promote there tunes and events.

That was a useful article - thanks! Hopefully my recent experience on FaceBook will help others - I learnt by my mistake!!

I thought it would be a great idea to invite Facebook friends etc. to an EVENT - an online advanced preview of my album. I got some people who accepted that they would 'attend'. Some also 'liked' my FB page and became fans.

However, when it came to following up those attendees who were not fans, I had to respond to them individually. It took me absolutely ages and FB only let me do 5, before informing me that I was becoming a FB nuisance! I then had to log out, wait 30 mins, log in again and inform another 5. I have been cursing myself for doing this - it has added days to my already tight schedule.

The only quick and effective method on FB of informing everyone at the same time is if they become fans of your page. Good Luck everyone! dee x

Don't forget other social networking sites that focus on other regions or non English speaking regions, which is also relevant is you are an Asian band or have a large Asian fan base.

Bebo - it's future is not sure yet as in April 2010, AOL announced it is planning to sell or shut down Bebo
Mixi - 80% share of the social networking market in Japan
Friendster - Over 90% of Friendster's traffic comes from Asia
Hi5 - focuses in South America and Central America

What about Foursquare? Has anyone used Foursquare for their band effectively?
